Developed in conjunction with Atelier B2A, the highly innovative project emphasises modularity and sustainability. The school has been designed to be dismantled and reassembled using more than 100 prefabricated wooden modules manufactured at the Technologie Habitat (TH) plant in eastern France. This concept is the result of close collaboration between commercial and construction teams andengineering teams with expertise in timber construction (WeWood) at Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, who together have devised an innovative solution of modular classrooms made from bio-sourced materials, built off-site and ready for installation on various school projects. 

The architecture of the project is sober and contemporary, with the facades designed to conceal the modularity of the structure. The school will consist of three distinct areas: timber modules will be used to construct the teaching area, while metal modules will be used for the catering and kitchen area and for the toilet and washing facilities. The structure will provide a learning environment for the students, divided into 22 classes. Together with Technologie Habitat, the idea behind this initiative is to provide a temporary, functional solution while renovation work at the Joliot-Curie middle school takes place. 

Besides its functionality, the project is an example of environmental excellence. It is certified for the 2031 threshold under RE2020 regulations, with level 3 for biosourced construction exceeded and a reusability rate of over 80% after the initial use of the modules, which will be dismantled and reused elsewhere. 

The first timber modules will be installed in Bagneux this summer, with the school scheduled to open in April 2025. 

The logistics and scheduling challenges will be met by the consortium teams thanks to their expertise in off-site manufacturing processes.
