TopSite, the first CSR label in the construction sector, is Bouygues Construction's guarantee of excellence on all its building sites

29-01-2020

Bouygues Construction is officially launching its new TopSite label, a new initiative within the profession that recognises exemplary operations in terms of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). To mark the occasion, the Horizon consortium, led by Bouygues Travaux Publics in association with Soletanche Bachy France, Soletanche Bachy Tunnels and Bessac, raised the TopSite flag on the site of the Ardoines station of the T2A project for line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express, at a ceremony attended by Philippe Bonnave, Chairman and CEO of Bouygues Construction, and Bernard Cathelain, a member of the management board of the Société du Grand Paris.

TopSite: a guarantee of the highest CSR standards throughout the world
As part of Bouygues Construction’s “Responsible and Committed” CSR vision, the TopSite label is a common standard of operational excellence in the 60 countries where the Group operates. To date, it is the only site label to cover all areas of CSR: health and safety, the environment, HR and social issues and quality & customer satisfaction. The sites are subject to regular follow-up assessments and the links forged with operational staff are part of a continuous improvement process built into this management tool.

Philippe Bonnave, Chairman and CEO of Bouygues Construction, said: “The role of a company as part of civil society has changed. In order to set an example it now has to self-regulate itself. We have recognised this at Bouygues Construction and the new TopSite label is the concrete expression of our “Responsible and Committed” approach, at the heart of our business and of our activity on building sites. It is common to all our business lines and supported by the commitment of all our employees, and it ensures that our customers can be sure of our performance in CSR.”
After an initial internal pilot phase resulting in the awarding of labels to more than 100 sites, Bouygues Construction is extending this approach to all its businesses, with the aim of assessing 100% of its eligible sites by the end of 2020.

T2A: operational excellence on a Grand Paris Express site
For the teams working in the Horizon consortium, who are carrying out the T2A project on the future line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express between Villejuif and Créteil, the TopSite label confirms that the CSR commitments made by Bouygues Construction have been implemented at an operational level.
In addition to the 16 qualifying criteria achieved during the on-site evaluation, employees have implemented innovations in all the topics assessed:
  • Safety: briefings at the start of a shift are carried out using the Kizeo Forms application, which provides information on the number of participants and key messages in order to guarantee day-to-day traceability.
  • Environment: for the formwork, the teams have replaced plywood with the Coffranov solution, which uses a new eco-material that is recycled and 100% recyclable.
  • HR: the organisation implemented on the project encourages gender diversity at all hierarchical levels: 29% of key production positions are held by women.
  • Social: training for traditional miners (working in areas where a tunnel boring machine cannot be used, such as the connecting galleries between the tunnel and the ventilation shafts, or the Vert de Maisons station) was set up for the first time with France’s national employment agency, Pôle Emploi.
  • Quality & Customer Satisfaction: the Horizon consortium is using 3 variable density tunnel boring machines, a first in France. These hybrid machines are capable of adapting their digging methods to the particularly complex and varied geology along the T2A route.
Bernard Cathelain, a member of the management board of the Société du Grand Paris, said: “The Société du Grand Paris is delighted about the award of the TopSite label to the T2A project on the future Grand Paris Express. It reflects the Horizon consortium’s strong commitment and corresponds to the requirements that the Société du Grand Paris stipulates in its contracts with respect to corporate social responsibility. CSR is of crucial importance to the Société du Grand Paris, firstly because it leads to greater acceptation of the project, but also because on a project of such a scale, we have a duty to improve practices in this area.”
